The original off-road icon. The one that united work with play. The one that made “sport utility” a household term. The one to combine a farm tool with a family hauler, and from which all others have followed since. The spirit of the original, retooled and ready for a classic American comeback.
Before 1961, International Harvester built tools that helped build, feed, and defend America. Then they shifted gears, producing sport utility vehicles that soon found a place in American driveways. The grit that defined the first generation of tractors and tools for the field translated seamlessly into a new era. That same ruggedness still drives Scout Motors today.
Our roots run deep, but they don’t define us. We’re blending DNA from the SUV that started it all with the pulse of modern technology to create something unique, a true original just like the first Scouts. This is more than a vehicle; it’s a legacy of exploration and adventure, reimagined for today.
On October 24, 2024, Scout Motors introduced the next era of rugged trucks and SUVs on a sunlit hill in Franklin, Tennessee.

American-born and American-made, Scout vehicles will be engineered in Detroit, built in South Carolina, and backed by the manufacturing and production expertise of Volkswagen Group - meaning, there’s plenty of road ahead. This is the next great American motor company, forged from the past, heading towards a bright future.
